Shift of the Serb contingent deployed in multinational operation in Lebanon





At the Niš airport “Constantine the Great” the shift of the Serbian military contingent engaged within the framework of the multinational UNIFIL operation in Lebanon took place.

A new rotation of Serbian peacekeepers seen off to Lebanon is made up of an Infantry Company, Staff Officers and members of the National Support Element, who will be engaged in the United Nations multinational operation in this country. In the next six months, the Infantry Company from 2 Brigade of the Land Forces will be commanded by Major Igor Kočović.

The previous rotation of the Infantry Company from the First Army Brigade, led by Major Ninoslav Đuđić, arrived to Serbia on the same plane.
Commander of the Land Forces Headquarters, Brigadier General Željko Tramošljika, Commander of the First Brigade, Brigadier General Zoran Nasković, Commander of the Second Brigade, Brigadier General Željko Kuzmanović and Lieutenant Colonel Emil Kirkov from the Center for Multinational Operations attended the shift of the Contingent of the Serbian Armed Forces at the “Constantine the Great” Airport.

Upon his return to the Republic of Serbia, the Commander of the Infantry Company, Major Đuđić pointed out that the unit he had commanded over the past six months had successfully implemented all the tasks set in accordance with the mandate of the UNIFIL mission.

- The activities of the Infantry Company of the Serbian Armed Forces were carried out in full in line with the plans and orders of the Spanish Battalion Command, the East Sector Command, as well as the Technical Agreement with the Kingdom of Spain – emphasized Major Đuđić, adding that the relationship with the local population and other nations within the mission was on high level, fully professional and characterized by mutual respect.

The Infantry Company executed tasks as an independent unit within the Spanish Battalion in the Multinational Brigade of the East Division, while the Force Protection Platoon engaged in the Italian contingent in the West will be sent later in the month.

The United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) was established by the United Nations Security Council Resolution of 19 March 1978. Members of the Serbian Armed Forces began their participation in this mission on 21 December 2010.
