Minister Vulin: The members of the Serbian Armed Forces have proved once again their humanity, bravery and competence

Today, Minister of Defence Aleksandar Vulin and Chief of General Staff of the Serbian Armed Forces Lieutenant General Milan Mojsilović talked with Commander of the combined force training area “Pasuljanske livade” Lieutenant Colonel Nebojša Lojupur and Master Sergeants Zoran Petrović and Saša Anđelković, who saved the life of a resident of Resavica near the training area.

After being informed by passers-by, the members of the combined training ground “Pasuljanjske livade” from the Training Command, saved the life of a woman, who was due to health issues, lying frozen and unconscious in the snow. They were administering the medical aid and taking care of her until she was admitted to a surgery in Resavica.

After today’s meeting, Minister Vulin underlined that wherever there were the members of the Serbian Armed Forces, there were order, law and security, and that every citizen of Serbia could be certain that they would be protected, and that they would have someone to rely on in the moment of trouble.

- The members of the Serbian Armed Forces are always there for their people. I am very proud of all the members of the Serbian Armed Forces, particularly of those who had an opportunity to show how humane they were, how brave and how competent they were. The training which they received, the training which enabled them to save another human life, is the training which we civilians all lack. That is something that we once knew, but what we have forgotten. This example shows how precious it is to be well prepared to help, and even to preserve a human life when it is needed - Minister Vulin stressed.

The minister of defence underlined that he was proud of them, just like the entire Serbia was, proud of its armed forces and proud of such brave and honourable members of the Serbian Armed Forces.

- But I cannot be proud of all those people, the fellow citizens of that woman, who, before the Serbian Armed Forces arrived, before the master sergeants arrived, had been passing next to the woman lying in snow. Before they arrived, several dozens of people had passed by and no one felt the need to help that woman - Minister Vulin emphasised.

According to him, we can get trained, to develop ourselves, to become more successful, but first and foremost we have to be better people.

Remembering that cold day in January, a medical technician, Master Sergeant Zoran Petrović, highlighted that after having received the information from his superior officer about a woman lying unconsciously in snow, he and his colleague from the unit immediately started off to the scene.

- The woman had an epileptic fit and the initial phase of freezing. After the administered first aid, when she had managed to regain consciousness, we transported her to a surgery in Resavica - stressed Master Sergeant Petrović, adding that he had recognised the symptoms of the epileptic fit on the basis of his previous experience.

His colleague, Master Sergeant Saša Anđelković, explains that after arrival on the scene, it was very important to establish and maintain contact with the woman by speech or hand squeezing, so they managed to learn from her that she has been suffering from epilepsy since birth.

- In those ten minutes, she had four more series of fits. We administered the first aid on the scene, and we were with her as well during the transport to the medical establishment in Resavica where she was taken care of - Master Sergeant Anđelković emphasised.

The members of the Training Command visited the woman during recovery in the medical establishment in Resavica where she thanked them for everything that they had done for her on that day saying that “she has nothing else to give them but her heart and gratitude”.

Minister Vulin and General Mojsilović rewarded the members of the Training Command who participated in the rescue, by awarding them seven-day stay on the Tara mountain.

Today’s reception was also attended by the Commander of the Training Command Lieutenant General Đokica Petrović.
