Minister Vulin’s Meeting with Ambassador Chepurin





Minister of Defence Aleksandar Vulin met today Ambassador of the Russian Federation in Serbia Alexander Chepurin.

Minister Vulin thanked the Russian Federation for the support to territorial integrity of the Republic of Serbia and its efforts at producing a compromise for Kosovo and Metohija, and for a vociferous and consistent support for the positions of the Republic of Serbia in United Nations Security Council, whenever the interest of Serbia is threatened.

Speaking about the situation in Kosovo and Metohija, the minister of defence pointed out that the current developments aggravated the continuation of the dialogue between Belgrade and Priština, as well as the possibility to reach compromise. According to him, Serbia believes that the establishment of the “Armed Forces of Kosovo” would cause serious security problems for the entire region and it strongly opposes it.

Minister Vulin and Ambassador Chepurin stressed that they were highly satisfied with the bilateral military-technical cooperation and that the both ministries would take steps towards the advancement of defence cooperation.

During the meeting, the interlocutors highlighted that the relations between the two countries are at an extremely high level. The visit from the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin to the Republic of Serbia on 17th January, made a strong impression both in Serbia and Russia. Also, they emphasised that there were deep historical roots and spiritual closeness exist between the two countries, which are further strengthened by an open and sincere relations between the two presidents, Aleksandar Vučić and Vladimir Putin, for the purpose of achieving new valuable results.

At the end of the meeting, Minister Vulin stressed that he would talk about the enhancement of the cooperation with the Minister of Defence of the Russian Federation Army General Sergey Shoygu no sooner than at the Eight Moscow Security Conference.
