New Magnetic Resonance Imaging Equipment at MMA

Today, the Radiology Institute of the Military Medical Academy in Belgrade started using a modern magnetic resonance imaging equipment of the strength 1.5 tesla.

- Every investment in military health is an investment in the quality of life of every members of the Serbian Armed Forces, and the quality of life of all those civilians who come to the MMA and all our facilities, seeking and receiving the best possible treatment. This year, the Ministry of Defence and SOVO Fund, have provided three billion and six hundred million dinars for all the needs of the military health system. Last year, three billion and two hundred million dinars were also procured - stated Minister of Defence Aleksandar Vulin, who, accompanied by State Secretary Bojan Jocić and Head of Military Health Department, Brigadier General Uglješa Jovičić, toured the MMA.

According to Minister Vulin, at this moment, some 1,300 military insured persons are waiting for the MRI examination, and owing to this new equipment, we can count on rather fast and significant shortening of the waiting list.

- Investments in he military health are going to be continued, first of all by investing in the quality of the staff. We are providing them with the best possible equipment and we will purchase new devices, but the most significant and something that cannot be replaced are the quality personnel who work here, with suitable knowledge, appropriate specialisation, so we will better their financial status since these people with their knowledge fully deserve it - Minister Vulin sent message.

Head of Military Medical Academy Colonel Miroslav Vukosavljević MD, underlined that the new MRI would mean a lot, both for the military insured persons, where they would shorten the waiting lists which had piled up in very short time, and for other insured persons of the National Fund for Health Insurance and other who gravitate towards being treated at the MMA.

The MRI examination is considered to be an indispensable diagnostic method for obtaining precise data on patients’ state of health. Each year, around 3,000 patients are examined on the magnetic resonance imaging equipment. The new equipment of the strength of 1.5 tesla, apart from shorter duration of the very examination, possesses more advanced performances in relation to the previous one, since it enables the examination of abdomen, pelvis in the same act, prostate examination, heart examination and other organs.
