World War I Armistice Centennial Ceremony marked




 
With the highest state and military honours, envoy of the President of the Republic of Serbia, Secretary General of the President, Nikola Selaković, accompanied by Chief of General Staff of the Serbian Armed Forces General Mojsilović, and Commander of Air Force and Air Defence, Major General Duško Žarković, laid a laurel wreath at the Monument to the Unknown Hero on Mt. Avala, on the occasion of the World War I Armistice Day - 11th November.
 
The delegation of the Ministry of Defence and the Serbian Armed Forces, led by the Chief of the Military Police Department, Brigadier General Rajko Milovanović, has participated today in the state ceremony on the occasion of the Armistice Day - 11th November.
 
The central state ceremony of laying wreaths and paying tribute at the Memorial Ossuary to the Defenders of Belgrade in the World War I was led by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior, Nebojša Stefanović, on behalf of the Government of the Republic of Serbia, with full military and state honours.
 
The ceremony at the Memorial Ossuary to the Defenders of Belgrade in the World War I, which represents the act of honouring innocent victims - members of the armed forces and civilians - killed during the World War I, was attended by representatives of the City of Belgrade, ambassadors and defence attaches accredited in Serbia, associations committed to preserving tradition of the Serbia's liberation wars and numerous citizens.
 
Laurel wreaths were also laid at the Allied military cemeteries from the World War I - at the Commonwealth cemetery, at the Memorial Ossuary of Russian soldiers killed in the World War I and at the French military cemetery.
 
The World War I Armistice Day is commemorated throughout the world in state events in memory of the 11th November 1918 when the World War I Armistice took effect at 11 o'clock.
 
The Republic of Serbia remembers, with pride and piety, hundreds of thousands of civilians and fighters who died innocently and heroically in the battles for the defence and liberation of the country during the war.
