Checking the readiness of the Special Forces Brigade and the River Fleet for the exercise “Century of Victors 1918-2018”




 
Defence Minister Aleksandar Vulin, accompanied by the Army Commander, Lieutenant General Milosav Simović and Chief of the Intelligence and Reconnaissance Department, Major General Ilija Todorov, visited the members of the Special Forces Brigade and the River Fleet, preparing for the upcoming exercise “Century of Victors 1918-2018”.
 
Members of the Special Brigade and the River Fleet have demonstrated a raider action against the elements of the enemy's combat formation in the Zvornik Lake area, today.
 
Minister Vulin, after the presentation he rated as “very good”, pointed out that the “Century of Victors” is certainly one of the most demanding exercises ever conducted by the Serbian Armed Forces, adding that even during the JNA time it is difficult to find examples of such large and complex operations carried out by an army.
 
- Here we could make sure of the readiness of the Special Brigade and to see the way how they are solving the most complex threats. At this moment, we are practising at other nine different locations. All preparations for that most important day, 10th November, are going according to the plan. Materiel is serviceable, personnel are ready, morale is at the highest level. This exercise is an indicator that the Serbian Armed Forces is able to ensure respect for the law in each part of its territory, to ensure peace, stability, preserve our territorial integrity, and not only in our area – Minister Vulin emphasized, adding that such a strong and organised Serbian Armed Forces guarantees that the entire region will be calm and stable and that we will be able to respond to every threat.
 
According to him, it can be seen today that members of the Serbian Armed Forces are well-trained, ready for anything, and what we are particularly pleased with, Minister Vulin added, is that all this is done in peace. And in peace we live thanks to the policy of the state leadership, which in the first place keeps in mind that peace and stability are our highest value.
 
On behalf of the Army Command, General Simović thanked the Mayor of Mali Zvornik, Zoran Jevtić and all citizens for hospitality.
 
- The Special Brigade is part of the Army of the Serbian Armed Forces and this unit is intended to protect and defend the state of Serbia and provide peace to all citizens of Serbia, regardless of their national, religious and political affiliations, General Simović emphasized.
 
The Special Brigade Commander, Brigadier General Miroslav Talijan, expressed special gratitude to the state and military leadership, for honouring the Special Forces Brigade, to show within the exercise marking such an important jubilee at the Zvornik Lake, the competence for solving the most complex diversion tasks.
 
- We have shown here the top tactical competence and firing power, and the efficiency and effects of the actions of the reconnaissance and raider teams - General Talijan emphasized.
 
President of the municipality of Mali Zvornik, Zoran Jevtić, pointed out that it was a great honour that the inhabitants of that area were able to see part of the capacities of the Serbian Armed Forces.
 
Specificity of the exercise “Century of Victors 1918-2018”, which will be held from 8th to 11th November in honour of marking the centenary since the end of the World War I, is also reflected in the fact that the planning, exercise and combat activities are to be carried out simultaneously at all 10 locations. Sround 8,000 members of the Serbian Armed Forces on more than 600 combat systems and 24 aircraft will demonstrate knowledge and skills of Serbian Armed Forces commanding officers and soldiers.
 
Earlier today, verification of preparedness for a combined tactical live fire exercise “Century of Victors 1918-2018” was done at Veliki Jastrebac as well. The verification of preparedness was attended by Army Commander, Lieutenant General Milosav Simović.
 
The exercise at Veliki Jastrebac involves members of the 246th CBRN battalion from Kruševac who have demonstrated today the engagement of members of the battalion in the tasks of the CBRN units of the Army, observation and reconnaissance of directions combat areas, processing of collected data and decontamination of contaminated units.
