Sergeant First Class Ristić the Winner of the Recognition the “Noblest Deed of the Year”

Today, in the Belgrade City Assembly, a ceremony was organised of presenting plaques for the noblest deed of the year which were conferred for the 55th time in a row by “Večernje Novosti” to individuals and organisations who marked the year behind us with their heroic, humane and selfless acts.

In the traditional activity “the Noblest Deed of the Year” the panel, presided by academician Matija Bećković, decided that Sergeant First Class Ivan Ristić from Leskovac should be given the prestigious recognition as the noblest individual in the past year.  On 5th October, this member of the First Brigade of the Serbian Armed Forces in Pančevo passed humanity test when he bare-handed threw himself on a bully and prevented a homicide. In front of numerous bystanders, Ivan, risking his own life, saved a woman’s life that a man tried to kill with a knife. While dozens of his fellow citizens watched in silence the real drama, Sergeant First Class Ristić joined the true heroes in the most admirable way with his heroic deed.

The recognition for the demonstrated bravery was presented to them by the Editor in Chief of “Večernje Novosti” Milorad Vučelić, while Minister Aleksandar Vulin, Army Commander Lieutenant General Milosav Simović and Commander of the First Army Brigade Brigadier General Željko Petrović were among the first to congratulate him on the received recognition.

- Sergeant First Class Ristić pointed out that he had not expect to receive the recognition for the “Noblest Deed of the Year” but that it meant a lot to him, primarily having in mind the other candidates for that prestigious recognition.

- When I think about their deeds, I realise that they all deserve every reward, to be talked about and every attention – said Ristić, who has been working in the armed forces for 20 years. His heroic act did not pass unnoticed by his superior officers of his subordinates, who are first of all proud of his deed and then of the reward received.

He emphasises that the greatest reward is that the woman, whom he had saved, survived and is recuperating. Ristić has no dilemma about whether he would again come to rescue somebody, and that if he had an opportunity to do all that again, he would do the same, but he would do it faster so that the injuries would be less serious – he says.

The golden plaque for the noblest collective deed was given to the nuns of the Sain Petka monastery in Izvor near Paraćin, while a special recognition of the panel for the noblest deed was conferred to Tamara Grujić, the author of the TV programme “In Action with Tamara”.

Golden plaque was given posthumously to brave Aleksandar Ćup from Novi Banovci for the noblest deed, because he gave his own life saving others. The golden plaque for child feet was given by the panel to Jovana Leposavić, the goal keeper of Female Football Club Red Star, who had, after conquering carcinoma, organised an array of humanitarian actions for the youngest oncology patients.

Silver plaques were given to Ferhad Nuri from Afghanistan, communal policemen Miloš Nikolić and Igor Milosavljević, Marijan Arsić from Vučak „Riders with a Great Heart“, Milutin Đačić from Mišićev, Rodoljub Nićiforović from Paris, policeman Ivan Ember from Temerin, fire fighters from Wales, fireman Miodrag Rajković from Niš and Ljubomir Antonijević from Kuršumlija.
