Contribution to the European Integrations of Serbia

"The activities undertaken by the Ministry of Defence and the Serbian Armed Forces unambiguously confirm that Serbia wishes to be a reliable partner in building security and defence. Our representatives are involved in the work of negotiating groups for 20 negotiation chapters, and members of the Serbian Armed Forces participate in four EU crisis management operations. We also expressed our intention to participate in the HELBROC battle group, led by the Hellenic Republic, starting in 2020. Through the process of European integration, Serbia expresses its readiness to build the capacities and capabilities of the national security and defence system in accordance with the standards and obligations arising from the EU Common Security and Defence Policy", Minister Vulin said at today's meeting with the Head of the European Union Delegation to Serbia, Sem Fabrizi .

He told the Head of the EU Delegation that the Ministry is interested in improving and facilitating the availability of EU funds and that it would be useful to indirectly engage the Ministry of Defence in the next IPA projects of a broader social significance.

Speaking about cooperation with the European Defence Agency, the interlocutors agreed that it has the potential to improve military and defence capabilities, which primarily relate to the strengthening of the domestic special-purpose industry and the research potential of the Serbian institutes.

Minister Vulin emphasized the excellent cooperation between the Serbian Armed Forces and KFOR and expressed the expectation that there will be no downsizing in UNMIK and KFOR in Kosovo and Metohija. Also, the Defence Minister said that the Serbian government expects the implementation of the Brussels Agreement, especially when it comes to the establishment of the Community of Serb Municipalities.

Ambassador Fabrizi introduced Minister Vulin to the scope of work of the European Union Delegation in Belgrade, as well as to the previous efforts in support of political and economic reforms and work on accelerating the European path of the Republic of Serbia. He expressed his belief that in the forthcoming period he will continue with activities in this direction and offer all possible assistance in the framework of Serbia's participation in the EU Common Security and Defence Policy.

Priority activities within the framework of the EU Common Security and Defence Policy include engagement in the EU crisis management operations and the EU Battle Group Concept, as well as cooperation with the European Defence Agency.

Members of the MoD and SAF are currently engaged in EU operations NAVFOR Atalanta, EUTM Somalia, EUTM Mali and EUTM RCA.
