Djordjevic with Defence Ministers of Iran and Armenia



The Defence Minister Zoran Djordjevic has met on the sidelines of the 6th Moscow Conference on International Security with the Defence Minister of the Islamic Republic of Iran General Hossein Dehghan and the Defence Minister of the Republic of Armenia Mr. Vigen Sargsyan.

During the talks with the Iranian counterpart Minister Djordjevic said that the Republic of Serbia saw Iran as a friendly country with great potential for defence cooperation. He especially emphasized possibilities of development of collaboration in the sphere of military economy, military-technical, military-educational and military-medical collaboration. Mr. Djordjevic stressed the necessity to take concrete steps in further development of relations, mainly coordination and signing intergovernmental Agreement on defence cooperation and possibly opening of the defence attaché office of the Republic of Serbia in Tehran.

The Defence Minister of Iran considers Serbia to be the friendly country, which has always had a fair and impartial attitude to the Islamic Republic. In accordance with it, he agreed with the proposals of Minister Djordjevic and stressed that Iran was ready to do everything necessary in the following period to provide conditions for development of broader cooperation in the sphere of defence and economy. Furthermore, he invited the Serbian Defence Minister to visit the Islamic Republic of Iran in the future.

During the talks with the Armenian Defence Minister Mr. Vigen Sargsyan, Mr. Djordjevic emphasized that the Ministry of Defence continued to pursue a balanced defence policy.
 
Minister Djordjevic stressed that Serbia appreciated participation and professionalism of the members of the Armenian Armed Forces within KFOR, which Serbia recognizes as the only partner of our Armed Forces in the preservation of peace and security in Kosovo and Metohija.
 
Mr. Djordjevic and Sargsyan talked, inter alia, about possibilities of the enhancement of defence cooperation.
