Session of National Security Council

The President of the Republic of Serbia Tomislav Nikolic chaired the session of the National Security Council held today in “Banjica 2” barracks of the General Staff.

The session was attended by the Prime Minister Aleksandar Vucic, the Defence Minister Zoran Djordjevic, the Minister of Interior Nebojsa Stefanovic, the Minister of Justice Nela Kuburovic, the Serbian Armed Forces Chief of General Staff General Ljubisa Dikovic, the Director of the Office for Kosovo and Metohija Marko Djuric, the Police Director Vladimir Rebic and directors of security services.

President Nikolic said that they discussed the current situation caused by the return of a train on the route Belgrade-Kosovska Mitrovica, causes, consequences and further steps of our country on the occasion of that event.

“We have had a great challenge in which the Prime Minister and I decided to stop the passenger train, which represented a big problem for the EU, USA and the Provisional institutions in Pristina. Yesterday we had a breach of several agreements made in Brussels, including the one that Special Force ROSU cannot be present at the territory north of Ibar without the permission of NATO and the local community. Everything was on the verge of a great conflict”, Serbian President said and emphasized that every subsequent attempt of the Provisional institutions in Pristina to cause a conflict would end badly.
According to him Serbia is ready to prevent the killings and exodus of Serbs from Kosovo and Metohija in any manner if someone provokes such things.

“We will neither provoke a conflict nor commence it, but we are the country which has to protect its nation and territory. My suggestion was that from this moment we should start negotiations in Brussels about the way the train would pass. Everything else is pointless because if there is no freedom of movement then which Western civilization we are talking about”, President Nikolic stressed.
